Phil Spector trial: Day 30

The cross examination of defence expert Vincent DiMaio continued today (June 28) during Phil Spector's murder trial in Los Angeles.

The former medical examiner insisted once again that actress Lana Clarkson held the gun that killed her.

DiMaio said he came to that conclusion based on the amount of gunshot residue on Clarkson's body, arms and the back-spatter of blood on her hands.

Spector is accused of murdering Clarkson on February 3, 2003 at his Los Angeles mansion. The defence contends that the actress shot herself.

Today the prosecution attempted to make a case that DiMaio was a hired gun for the defence and that his findings were based more on wishful thinking than fact.

DiMaio repeatedly insisted that his conclusion was an "objective scientific truth," despite the fierce questioning by Deputy District Attorney Alan Jackson, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Jackson also questioned DiMaio about whether Spector might have washed the blood spatter or gun residue off of himself.

DiMaio responded: "There is no physical evidence about Mr. Spector. In my opinion she had the gun and in the period of association, she fired it. She probably didn't think of the consequences."
Tabloid Hell: Spears assistant ordered to testify in court

Britney Spears' assistant Alli Simms has been subpoenaed to make a statement by Spears' former husband Kevin Federline.

Although it is not clear what exactly Simms will be requested to discuss, Federline's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan told the Associated Press that it is "in connection with the Britney Spears - Kevin Federline issue" and that Simms is "believed to have relevant information".

A child custody heating is scheduled for tomorrow (August 14) which pertains to Federline's recent bid for primary physical custody of his children with Spears - 22-month old Sean Preston and 10-month old Jayden James.

Spears and Federline finalised their divorce on July 30.
Spice Girls bickering

Victoria Beckham is furious at Geri Halliwell's plans to perform her solo hits on the Spice Girls' forthcoming world tour.

Victoria, also known as Posh Spice, is determined Geri - who quit the band in 1998 to pursue a solo career - should not be allowed to sing a medley of her hits, which include 'Lift Me Up', 'Bag It Up' and 'Look At Me', when the girls hit the road in December.

A source said: "Victoria is adamant she won't do it. When she signed up, one major stipulation was that Geri will not sing solo."

The row is threatening to divide the Spice Girls, with fellow members Emma Bunton and Mel C reportedly siding with Geri, while Mel B is against the idea.

Geri and Victoria are also said to be clashing over the stage outfits the five-piece will wear. Victoria wants classy costumes, while Geri wants flamboyant outfits like those they were famed for in their 90s heyday.

An insider added to Britain's Star magazine: "Victoria and Geri have come a long way since they were last in the Spice Girls, and they have completely different ideas of what will work on the road.

"With her fashion background, Victoria considers herself to be the key player in deciding the outfits and overall look of the band, but Geri is adamant that she has her say too."

Tensions between the pair are said to be so bad, they had to organise a get-together at Geri's house to sort out their differences.

However, after both aired their views, Geri and Victoria were soon bickering once more.

The insider added: "It was not pretty. They are both feisty and used to getting their own way, so they can't agree on anything at all."
