Prince to play legendary hometown venue
Prince has announced that he will perform at Minneapolis' First Avenue for the first time in 20 years this Saturday (July 7).
The Purple One helped make the venue in his hometown famous two decades ago by shooting the live scenes from his film, 'Purple Rain', at the club.
Tickets for the show are set to go on sale Saturday (July 6) for $31.21.
The First Avenue gig will follow a performance he has scheduled earlier in the day at the Minneapolis Macy's store to launch his new fragrance, 3121, as previously announced. |
Gym Class Heroes new single
After a brilliant run of summer performances, headlines dates and festivals - Gym Class Heroes return with their single, 'The Queen & I? set for release digitally on October 22nd and physically on October 29th through Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen. It follows the phenomenal success of 'Cupid?s Chokehold(Breakfast In America)? which stayed in the UK Top 10 for more than 8 weeks as well as the most recent Top 10 smash hit 'Clothes Off? (which still resides in the UK Top 20 singles chart).
'It?s a personal song,' says frontman Travis McCoy, 'about girls who fancy alcoholic beverages, girls who like to have too much of a good time. I have weird underlying issues with females and alcohol. This song is kind of like closure, though you?d never get that vibe listening to the song. It?s fun to do things like that, make music that?s fun with a really poppy vibe, but when you listen to the lyrics, it?s like, 'Holy shit, that dude just said,? If you?re not paying attention, you think it?s just another radio ditty that sticks in your head, but then when you really listen you see it?s a whole lot more.'
Gym Class Heroes are having a brilliant year doing what they love most. Continuing in the tradition of kicking out genre-busting jams that seamlessly meld rap, rock, R&B, and anything else that happens to strike the musically voracious outfit?s fancy. Breaking musical boundaries and changing perceptions of what hip-hop or indie or rock can be, with Gym Class Heroes, what you see isn?t always what you get. Though the overall feel of their album 'As Cruel As School Children? is bright and breezy, McCoy?s personal, playful lyrics can often be peeled back to reveal hidden layers of emotion and introspection, notably on songs such as this forthcoming single, The Queen and I.
Gym Class Heroes have spent much of the last two years doing what they do best ? playing live. They have headlined sold out dates, and toured the rock world with acts like Fall Out Boy and the Warped tour, as well as taking a firm stance in the indie hip hop circuit, constantly out there bringing their unique hip-hop vision to new fans. |
Tabloid Hell: Usher still engaged
Usher has commented on the much-publicised cancellation of his wedding last weekend.
The singer called off the wedding at the last minute, amid speculation that he could not go through with it without his mother present. Usher fired his mother as his manager Jonetta Patton earlier this year and the pair were reportedly at odds ever since.
Meanwhile, rumours that Usher had split with pregnant finacee Tameka Foster proved to be unfounded today when he made a statement to Usmagazine.com "As of right now we don't have a date but we will let you know when we do. Everybody's fine. Tameka and the baby are fine."
Foster reassured People.com on Monday that despite rumours of complications in her pregnancy (thought be another possible reason for the cancelled wedding), that she and baby are fine. "We had a scare. But, I am fine and the baby is fine." |
